Shopping, test driving and choosing your new boat is the fun part. Moving it overseas is where it can get complicated. Nearly 70% of the boats POP Yachts sells in the U.S. are exported to other countries, such as Singapore, Australia, Italy, Europe, the Middle East and many other locations.
With our large global presence and years of experience shipping vessels overseas, you can trust POP Yachts to get your newly purchased boat transported quickly and safely. Our team of experts know the right questions to ask, such as:
- Will you require inland transport to move your boat to port?
- Will your boat be transferred on road or water?
- Do you need a captain, a truck and driver or an escort?
- Will the boat fit under bridges on the road, or do we need to make adjustments, such as dropping the radar arch?
- Do you need a road trailer or shipping cradle? Is that trailer legal in your country?
- Do you need the boat shrink-wrapped?
- Does the steam ship line include insurance?
- Does the boat need to be fumigated?
- What needs to be addressed when the boat arrives? Local rules, taxes or CE certification in Europe?

If you purchase a vessel in the U.S. and want to ship it to Europe, it must be European Certified (known as CE). The Recreational Craft Directive introduced this certification to ensure that all boats used in Europe meet certain safety requirements.
CE certification includes an inspection, sticker changes (such as “petrol” instead of “gas”), physical changes (like adding a fire retardancy unit in the engine room) and, naturally, lots of paperwork and other requirements.
American boat builders already comply with rigorous safety standards set by U.S. watchdogs, and most of them comply with CE certification (especially if you purchase a boat built in 1999 or later). However, U.S. boat builders won't perform a formal CE certification unless a boat is actually being shipped to European distributors.
At POP Yachts, we understand all of the intricate details of CE certification, such as: Who signs off the boat and approves the CE certification? Who issues the new legal hull ID number? Don't leave these details to chance. POP Yachts can have your boat CE certified before it leaves the U.S. or arrange for CE certification in your home country.
